Convulsions associated with cyclosporin A in renal transplant recipients.

چکیده
Cyclosporin A has proved to be a valuable drug both in the prevention of graft rejection after solid organ transplantation' and in the prevention of graft versus host disease after bone marrow transplantation.2 Caine et al treated the first cadaver renal allograft recipients with cyclosporin A in 1978,3 and toxicity due to the drug was noted soon afterwards. The adverse effects in transplant recipients attributed to cyclosporin are numerous, with renal and hepatic toxicity and tremor being well described. We report three cases of neurotoxicity presenting with grand mal seizures in renal transplant recipients which we believe to have been associated with cyclosporin A.

Histopathologic evaluation of Verrucous skin lesions in renal transplant recipients
Background: Warts are common in renal allograft recipients (RAR) with reported incidence of 24% to 100%. These patients also demonstrate an accelerated malignant transformation of warts. Although in immunocompetent patients, the histology of common warts is quite predictable, this is not so in RAR. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the histopathologic findings of warty lesion...
متن کاملPrevalence of herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 infections in renal transplant recipients and their renal function
Background and Objectives: Viral infections are a major problem for transplant recipients. Reactivation of viruses is associated with the use of strong immunosuppressive drugs. Herpes simplex virus infections in renal transplant patients may become severe without treatment. Although the prevalence and role of herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2 in bone marrow and lung recipients are well known; howe...
متن کاملFrequency of malignant skin tumors in renal transplant recipients in Imam Reza hospital of Mashhad, Iran
Background: The higher frequency of malignant skin tumors is of great significance in renal transplant recipients (RTRs) who should receive immunosuppressive therapy for a long time. This study was designed to determine the frequency of malignant skin tumors in RTRs in Imam Reza Hospital, Mashhad, Iran, in 2001-2002.Method: This descriptive study was performed on 322 recipients who were examine...
متن کاملThe CARI guidelines. Choice of calcineurin inhibitors in adult renal transplantation: effects on transplant outcomes.
(Suggestions are based on Level III and IV evidence) There are excellent results in terms of patient and graft survival in renal transplant recipients treated with both tacrolimus and cyclosporin. Currently, these agents are commonly used as primary immunosuppression in renal transplantation. • While these guidelines indicate that tacrolimus is superior to cyclosporin in terms of prevention of ...
متن کاملAntiviral agents for preventing cytomegalovirus infection in pediatric renal transplant recipients: A systematic review
Background and Objective: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections are associated with severe morbidity and mortality in patients, especially pediatric renal transplantation patients. The use of immunosuppressive agents places these patients at the risk of viral infections. As cytomegalovirus infection influences the graft outcome, adopting useful strategies for limiting this virus after transplantatio...
